Don't turn over the floor boards
It's a good idea when renovating floor boards, not to be tempted to turn them over to make sanding easier, If this is done and i have seen this dona a lot, you will find that where the board has been fixed to the joist beneath it, a lighter ghost image of the joist that runs real deep into the wood. This will not sand out completely, It is very unsightly and the only real way is to bleach the whole board(s) or use dark coloured varnish to cover the ghosting which also looks unsightly as stain or dye will still reflect the difference, It's best to sand off bitchumin and paint and use lots more sandpaper and time,rather than turning the boards.
